I have had no problems with 3com, Realtek or Davicom based PCI 10/100 Ethernet cards.

To get a list of supported NIC's you will need to look on the CentOS site as SME7 will only support what CentOS 4.3 supports.

John gave you a hepful answer, think about it....  The d-link dfe-530tx is not supported, period.  No ways around this.  However, the D-Link DGE-530T (10/100/1000)  is OK on VS7.  As a bonus, this card comes with a low profile adaptor, very handy if you use 2RU boxes.

If it does not work out of the box, please fill in a Bug Report @ Bugzilla (http://bugs.contribs.org)  - check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help .  Thanks.

Jon,  I have been looking at Centos site, no trace of supported list for hardware, have to go the RH according to a post found when searching for "supported hardware list".   And here again, I could not find a meaningful list for NIC for example, only "supported hardware" dealing with items listed by brand names...  The supported hardware list of old has vanished, replaced by a new (and confusing) format.  Am I missing something? Rgds. chris.

to further muddy the water, D_Link has a history of saving the boxes and changing the contents instead of creating a new model, so their model numbers don't help much, you need revision levels and and chipset info to set up their products unless you have the install software from the original box.

I went to Tiger Direct, bought 3 different gigabit cards for $100, two of them worked with SME7, no way of knowing by looking at the boxes!

(VIA and Realtek chipsets worked, Marvell didn't )

I wasted half a day trying to make the Marvel card ( a dlink model that CLAIMS to work with RH4 according to their site ) work, it works fine in an  XP machine.

Yes you may have them working because you may have a different revision as according to the FAQ the D-Link DFE 530TXS rev A1 does not work so you must have a different rev number.

i went out and bought a d-link dfe- 530t (rev B1 apparently) and it dosent work either. so im going to take it back and get another one and see if it works and keep trading them in till i get one that works.

but still, if we could put together a little list of cards that people have that work might come in handy later on

Hi, DGE 530T (not sure of revision) works fine, also have a Broadcom BCM5704, again works a treat in 7.
