can't join my sme 7 domain (not the common problem)
« on: September 18, 2006, 09:57:17 PM »
Hi,

Before i got anywhere i have searched this site and google extensivly and this is now my last resort of solving this problem.

Ok, I have set up a sme server as a pdc but cannot connect my win2k laptop or my xp machine to it. I am currently working on the win2k machine first and have installed the xp patch already.

I can ping the server via ip and name and it is also set up as a dhcp server and it is giving my pc's ip's no problem. However when i got to connect it to the domain i get the error that it cannot be connected.

when i do nslookup it picks up wat it should be and my dns is set to the ip of the server.

Any other idea's ?

Thanks

Hopw about the log files, try starting with /var/log/messages.

This isn't by chance a replacement for a previous PDC with the same domain name is it?

I ran into this a while ago when replacing a box that I copied Data to to, re-created the user accounts, but the SAMBA ID of the previous PDC will never be the same as a re-created PDC (in this case I copied data instead of "restoring" data the SME DB and system files). I saw a thread here recently that indicated that it is possible to copy the original PDC's SAMBA ID over to the new PDC - so I am sure if you do a quick search you can locate the thread and see if it applies to your situation.
