Howto open port 80 again
« on: September 18, 2006, 11:38:17 PM »
For some reason port 80 WAN-connections don't function anymore.
I hoped an upgrade of SME 6.5 to 7.0 would solve my problem but it didn't.

- My router is forwarding all ports properly.
- My ISP doesn't block port 80.
- On the LAN port 80 works fine

httpd listens port 80
don't know if other program is listening on same port; don't know if port 80 is blocked in firewall.
It looks like port 80 (external) is forwarded to my pc on other ipaddress. But I did not set this up on my router,pc,dns or anything else.

Somebody a hint?
Greetingz, Robert

The results of that are:

httpd-e-smith=service
    TCPPort=80
    access=public
    status=enabled

That looks good I think?!

From your previous posts it is the most likely scenario.
Just because someone at the ISP said they don't block port 80 doesn't mean it's correct.
Did you really prove they don't block it, who is your ISP ?

Run a port scan test on your system to see what's open

Where are you seeing this ?
What makes you believe port 80 is forwarded to a local PC if you did not set it up ?

What do you get when you access your site using
http://www.yourdomain.com:80
(replace with your actual domain name of course)

Why did I forgot to check with grc. Stupid me,
I was blindfolded by several other things. Port 80 status is closed according to grc.com.
I'll contact my ISP asap.

Thank you Ray

What router do you use? I have a Linksys provided by the Vonage phone service, and I recently woke up to find no ports were open.

Even powering off the router didnt fix it. I ended up placing the sme server in the DMZ of the router, which opened the ports. Then I disabled the DMZ and found the correct ports were once again working.

Weird stuff...

Thanx compdoc.
I do have a linksys router and am very glad with it. Ather several tests with an other router I noticed that everything worked fine.
Your little trick with DMZ didn't work for me (I had Alchemy firmware).
I decided to flash my router with other firmware (dd-wrt.org). The flashing thing fixed my problem. Thanks for the tip.

Strange thing that only port 80 was blocked.

I have to say thet the dd-wrt firmware for linksys is awesome. If you have a Linksys it's worth looking at this.

Glad its working now. Since I use the Vonage phone service, I cant even load Linksys's firmware updates - I have to stick with the Vonage supplied firmware.
