Problem with email. New install of SME 7
« on: September 22, 2006, 08:44:12 AM »
I just finished installing and configureing SME 7 on my server.  So far the only problem I have found (and it is a big one), is that neither my wife or I can access our email via Mozilla.  Email can be accessed via Webmail at https://mydomainname.xxx/webmail/

Set up is Server Only.  A primary domain (mine) and two virtual domains, one of which is my wifes and one is a play domain.

My wife uses POP3 on port 110 and I am using IMAP on port 143.

I need help please.  My old 6.5rcx server (which still lives on another hard drive, and will be used until this is resolved) did not have this trouble.

Thanks

Ted

Ted,

Are you accessing email from the LAN our from the outside?  This makes a difference.  "Local Networks" will be allowed un-encrypted POP and IMAP access.... but outside addresses need to use (for security reasons) SSL.

POP3S and IMAPS and for that matter SMTP AUTH are all protocols that you should use from the outside to protect your passwords and privacy.

So... are you setup as server-only?  server-gateway?  Are you on the inside or outside?  Make sense?

Are you trying to access it from the local network or from outside the local network?

By default, SME 7 only allows pop3 or imap access from the local network.  From any other network, you have to change "Configuration", "Email", "POP3 Server Access" and "IMAP server access" from "Allow Private" to "Allow private and public secure (POP3S)" and "Allow private and public secure (IMAPS)".

Once you've selected "Allow private and public...", you have to setup your client to use Secure POP3 on port 995 or IMAPS on port 993.  You may have to do this even from the local network once you've selected the "private and public" option...

Thanks.  I figured that out about a half hour after I posted my wimper for help.  By the time I tested to make sure that e-mail was comming and going I was to tired to do anything but sleep.

I did not see that in the documentation but maybe I just did not look close enough.

Thanks
