How to reconfigure my network, system wont see new NIC
« on: September 10, 2006, 02:45:57 PM »
Hi all,
I have installed a new NIC in my SME 7 server and want to configure it as server-gateway. While in the configuration console (/sbin/e-smith/console; option 2) I don't get to choose the NIC's for eth0 & eth1, the system reports no extra NIC found. Allready ran kudzu to configure the new hardware.
The Centos 4 connamd syste-config-network-cmd doesn't exist.
What am I doing wrong?

Did you try and setup the system again.

Open Putty or go to the keyboard + monitor attached to the system and log in as admin then reconfigure the system.

Tib

Hi Tib,
Yes , I've tried that allready. I've also noticed that the spanish translation has some quirks: I can't create new networks under this language. I allready posted a new translation file under bug tracker, but this runs deeper. I will try to debug it and get back to the bug tracker with a post.

Ernesto

Ernesto, What brand and model of NIC are you trying to install?

Assuming that the 3com card is being used for the LAN, enter the following at the command promt:
Code: [Select]
#db configuration setprop EthernetDriver1 3c59x
#signal-event post-upgrade
#signal-event reboot

Replace "EthernetDriver1" with "EthernetDriver2" if the card is being used for the external inteface.

Hi Loyd,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried setting EthernetDriver2 , etc. When I configure my server for server-gateway mode the system replies it has only one NIC.
It was realy simple to do this with SME 6.01.
I don't have a clue as to what is wrong.
Hope somebody else has the answer.

Ernesto

Could it be that this is a card for which you have to disbale plug and play using a tool on the setup disks?
Do you have your IRQ's to be set manual in the BIOS or is it ste to auto?

Cactus,
I droped the subject as it was leading me nowhere, but I gue you might be right. Allthough the NIC is a newer model it could be colliding INT with the onboard interface.
Thanks for the hint.

NICs dissapeared?
« Reply #9 on: September 26, 2006, 12:09:08 PM »
Hi guys, I think this might be on the same topic.

Both NICs dissapeared.  I tried reconfiguring the server, setting it to server-only mode, another nic, it simply won't start the nic's.

Code: [Select]
/etc/init.d/network status

only returns dev lo as functional

I need to set up the NICs asap, please help!!
