VMware Player

I've been trying to install VMware Player on SME7 Final using the "how-to" from http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/How-To%20install%20VMware%20free%20server%20on%20a%20SME%207.0%20Host. I've done all the steps with no problems... only replacing the VMware-server packet by the vmware-player...

After that I've tried to run "vmplayer" and I got a error message :

(vmplayer:13284): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I'm trying to run on the local machine, so, I don't know why the X cannot open my display...
Can someone help-me with that?

Many thanx,
Jonas Brum

The vmware player requires xwindows, but william_syd's howto only installs xorg-x11-libs, not an entire x server as described here: http://www.vmware.com/community/message.jspa?messageID=417139.

The main advantage of using VMWare server is that it can run without local display and you connect with console from another desktop with windows interface (MS or X-Win). Also when you disconnect from the server's console it still runs "headless".
VM Player or workstation need the local Windows all the time and not compatible with SME.
