AppleTalk - Printer config BUG
« on: February 08, 2002, 08:24:40 AM »
Dear E-Smith Developers,

In SME Server v5.1.2, when configuring a printer there are
two fields to fill: the printer name and its config.

When the server sets up the printcaps for the apple talk print
service, papd.conf, it uses the description field to label the
printer.

Problem: The Macintosh mancine does not see any of the configured printers.

Bug: The printer description contains spaces.

Solution: Simple, don't put spaces in the printer description name.

I don't know if this is a known problem. I found out in some FAQ
that this was a problem (after reading configsd and man pages for
some hours). Either the netatalk package has a bug or the administration scripts
should replace blank spaces with underscores.

Thanks,

   Sergio

PS: Sorry if this is a well known fact but I didn't see it in the
    FAQ.
