Hi!

When I try to use the patch update function(software installer) in SME Server, it shows this error to me and can't update the patch. What can I do? Thank u!

I'm getting the same error trying to update an installation I originally did in late August.  The process left my system in an unusable state after reconfigure and reboot, so i had to revert to my snapshot backup (SME Server is running under VMWare).  I had a lot of patches to apply, and by doing a few at a time I narrowed it down to one of the kernel patches, although I didn't do the kernel patches one at a time to figure out which one, as there were half a dozen or more.  Right now I'm still running without any of the patches, until this gets figured out.  I didn't see anything useful in any of the logs before I restored.  I looked in messages, yum/current, and yum/log.  

If someone can tell me what to do in order to gather more information I'd be willing to try this again in an effort to gather the data necessary to fix this.

I get a similar problem if I select all of the available updates.  If I select and apply them one at a time (or sometimes I get away with a few at a time), it works fine.  However this is tedious because of the reboot required after each cycle.

Have just started making my first experience with SME70

On a freshly installed SME70 I notice this the messages on the Software Installer panel:

"Updates Available
There are updates available for your system. These updates should be installed as soon as possible."

Before clicking the "Install available updates" - button I

-  Checked the "Yum/Current" logfile from the view log files panel and I saw this:

According to Bug #118 (http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118#c0)

Well, Ok then tried to get some information on this new "Software installer" panel introduced
in SME70 by reading the online manual ( http://smeserver.sourceforge.net/sme70/manual#h74-2 )
Hmm, that did not give me much...

Decided to give it a try by clicking the "Install available updates" -button.
After quite some time (approx. 10 min.) the panel was updated and a small box with
"Updates available" showed.  By scrolling up/down (this box is only 4 lines high!)
I counted 80 'updates'.

I clicked the "Install selected updates"  (default all 80 was marked/selected)
Again waiting without being able to follow the progress...
After approx. 6 min. this messages showed in the panel:

"Proxy Error

The server could not handle the request POST /server-manager/cgi-bin/yum.

Reason: Error reading from remote server."

BUT from looking at the LEDs on my router it seemed that SME70 was still downloading,
so I decided to wait (I can be a patient person at times...)

I logged on the console and checked the /var/log/yum/yum.log (approx. 15 min. after
the "Proxy Error" showed).  The last 2 lines of this log was:
php-pear   i386   4.3.9-3.15   smeupdates   266 k
procps     i386

- the last line seemed incomplete.

After waiting another 2 hours and 15 min. (!!) the activity LEDs calmed down.

Clicking the "POST /server-manager/cgi-bin/yum"-link updated the "Software Installer"
panel which now (again) showed:
"Updates Available
There are updates available.... bla bla."

Checking the /var/log/yum/yum.log again I noticed it was updated and found these

Obviously there is problems downloading packages!
"No more mirrors to try" - which mirrors has been tried?

How can I check/verify the access to these mirrors?

How can I tell if this is a (partial) success or (total) failure?

How can I monitor the progress? (otherwise that checking the LEDs on my router and guessing
that it's my SME70 downloading packages)

Would it not be more convenient making an updated release of SME70-iso, which included all
these 'mandatory' updates?  It would certainly be MUCH faster to install!

When I think back I remember it was also quite time consuming upgrading the SME60-1 with
mandatory packages (a couple of hours...)  but it could usually  be done without problems.

Btw. my internet connection speed is 2048/512 kbps

I have searched the Forum and read the Bug #611, #1863, #1873 and #1956 (among others).
In Bug#1873 it is discussed if access to the mirrors is the culprit...!?

I do my updates the old way ... login using putty and type "yum update"

that way you see exactly what is happening.

Sometimes the mirrors are down etc ... when I updated approx 7 days ago ... there were no problems.

Hi!

Tried the "Software Installer" panel once more this afternoon.

Still the same 80 packages/updates showed in the list box but this time
the "Install selected updates" process ran without problems.
(besides from the same messages "Proxy Error" after 5 min.)

Checking the "yum/yum.log" showed numerous "Updated...", two "Installed..." and one "Erased..."

I tried Tib's way ("yum update" via command prompt) and it worked fine (thanks Tib   ).  Afterward I had to reinstall VMWare tools and play with the issues about the tools not installing cleanly without manual tweaking, but that was the same as when i first installed them.
