I've setup an SME server (5.1.2) between my windows based lan and my Speedstream 5851 dsl router. Since I already have a DHCP (WinNT) server internally, I did not configure DHCP on the SME box. I enabled PPTP on the SME server. Also, I forwarded port 1723 and protocol 47 from the router (with my 1 true internet IP) tot he outside interface of the SME box (192.168.254.1)
Now, when I initiate a PPTP connection, I get prompted for a login and establish a connection, but cannot ping any of the internal pc's or servers. My internal interface on the SME box is 192.168.1.254. Both internal and external interfaces on the SME box use a 255.255.255.0 mask. The internal DHCP server passes out a GW of 192.168.1.254 and a DNS set to my ISP DNS server (216...). The DHCP range is 192.168.1.0-254 with appropriate exclusions for servers. When the PPTP connection is created, I get IP: 192.168.1.249, mask: 255.255.255.255, GW: 192.168.1.249 and DNS: 192.168.1.254. This seems strange, and seems to be confirmed since I cannot ping anything. The PC's on the LAN are not in an NT domain if that makes a difference.
Any help would be appreciated,
Kevin
