« on: October 23, 2006, 11:40:04 PM »
SME 6.X - all updates, has been working flawless.
Today it quit.
CLAM is up to date, did a root kit scan etc.

In Webmail, whe ncompose a new messge this is the error:
There was an error sending your message: Failed to connect to localhost:25 [SMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: -1, response: )]

I have tried several reboots etc and I can not determine whgat ios wrong.

Using "top -i" I see that httpd was using lots of cpu, but has settled doen now, but still can't send.

Where do I look now?
Thanks for any assistance.

In the usual place you should always look, ie in the log files.

I just nicely finished sorting this out.
There was Nothing in the log files to show a problem.
I narrowed it down to something clearing my assp configuration file.
I repopulated the fields with the proper values and am away again.

ASSP uses port 125.

Thanks,
Dan

Look in the Additional Information section re compatibility with ASSP

Hi Ray,

I have been using ASSP for 3 years on this same machine never a
problem until yesterday.

After I reported  I found something had cleared my ASSP configuration page, and I repopulated it and it was working again, I was able to reproduce the problem again as follows.

Opened my ASSP configuration page http://myserver:55555
Noted all fields were populated.
Clicked statistics, my stats for the last 3 years were there.
Clicked main page, and be darned if it wasn't all cleared again.

Are you telling me the link you show is what is happening, and has been known about for a long time? Because if it is, it has never happened to me before on this machne, or the server before it, and at least 6 others set up the same.

You have not given enough information to be able to identify your problem. I was just suggesting that there can be compatibility issues, depending on what else you are using on your server.
