download file from web site on SME server
« on: October 25, 2006, 11:45:09 AM »
Hi

I have a SME server which is acting as my network's internet gateway. I host a photo web site in the primary ibay which everyone can view OK

Yesterday I added a link to one of the pages to download a file from a folder I called data which is inside the html folder. When I tested the link while the web page was on my PC, the download worked fine. One I uploaded the file & modified web page to my server, the download link would not work, (yes the path is correct).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Peter

P.S> I forgot to mention, viewing the web site works fine from both the local network & the Internet.

You need to be more specific about what "would not work" means.

Is the link a URL ?

Hi

I get a the page could not be found (HTTP 404 Not Found).

The file, (hocking.exe), is located inside a folder which is inside the same folder the the web pages are inside, the download link refers to http://www.mydomain.dyddns.org/data/hocking.exe

Thanks,

Peter

Can you browse to
http://www.mydomain.dyddns.org/data
and see the file listed ?

If you click on it does it ask you to open or save ?

Are you trying to download the file or run the executable ?

Can you temporarily remove or delete the index.htm file in the .../data /html folder, and then try browsing to that location again and see if you see the file listed there.

Are you sure you have the spelling case correct, linux is case sensitive.

In sme7 you may need to enable indices on that ibay.

The data folder is in the html folder, in the Primary ibay, correct?  Because you got the "This ibay has not been customized" canned response index.html page I really think you have an ibay called "data" (it may be there by default and not listed in the ibay page) that is actually being called.  Can you rename your 'data' folder to something else and move the file to there and try it?  That's what I'd do to troubleshoot.

you could also use "files" folder accessible from LAN via network neiborhood for file storage.
http://domain.name/ibayname/files/filename.exe would do it.
