Topic: Server Security and Flexability

Hey guys/gals just a quick question, i went through the manual very quickly but i just had a few questions.
1) Does this have a firewall if operating independently on a direct connection to the Internet, if not is it possile to add shorewall or something ?
I don't really need a gui to config the firewall, but i find iptables a pain sometime.
2) Can certain features be turned off ? I.E ftp server or remove the DHCP server ?
3) Can 3rd party packages be added ( Does not have to show up on the GUI ) ?
Is there a way to mass add users from any type of list ? I can inter convert between formats without any problem.
This server will be for about 300 users email and a e learning site ? Is this is recommended solution ? I can go with a server distro and start from scratch but web administration is my major goal, since i will not be there to manage it 100%  of the time and i would like someone to just do simple task's i.e add users or remove them. Without touching the console or going through sql imports as in other cases.

SME server is a perfect solution for you.

1. Firewall is already included and automatically configured for server-gateway modes.

2. FTP is included, but disabled by default. If you don't use it, do not enable.
DHCP server is included, but during install you have an option to enable it or not.
Unused services are easy to disable.

3. There are many add-ons preconfigured for SME and most of generic LAMP based applications work "out off the box"


It is possible to delegate to local administrator only some of the admin's tasks via free add-ons and not share system's root password. Also there is add-on for multiuser phpmyadmin, you can delegate specific database only management to another web author if needed.

E-mail include secure smtp, secure pop, secure IMAP, webmail and comes with antivirus antispam solutions.
