Multiple Domains And Emails
« on: November 22, 2006, 09:08:27 PM »
I'm confused about this subject

I can easily create other domains from the SME manager, and in the domain host via yahoo,I can easily setup my MX and A records etc all work fine, Websites, emails etc.

But when I try to setup the domain host for a site that I want forwarded, to another server instead of to my ibay, this also works, but i can't seem to figure out how to host the email on SME while forwarding to the other website host ? can this be done?

The problem is that one of the domains are hosted at yahoo and I want to foward to another webserver on another site, that is simple enough and it's working, however when I setup the SME to resolve that domain locally so that I can get the email for that domain the email works, but now the site does not forward.
The site not goes to my ibay for that ibay i had to select for other domains-resolved locally.

Some of this topic may not be related to SME but it overlaps the SME function not sure what to do about this.

Try redirecting  the ibay to the actual site ( assuming security isn't a big deal to viewers! )

You can actually change how addresses are resolved - if the site isn't stored on the server, set it to be resolved by internet DNS servers.

The e-mail will always work internally no matter what deals with the DNS purely because the domain is in the server's settings.

Externally, you'd need to set your DNS to have an 'A' entry pointing to your internet webserver, and an 'MX' entry to your SME server.

I have my SME set up as follows;

computerdj.net is completely local, and valewaytechnology.com is hosted externally, but the e-mail is local.

Hope this is of some use :)

Host email but with remote website ?

Regarding Redirect in SME

Thanks, I'm not sure how to redirect in SME cause it always seems to ask me for the ibay of the new domain, during domain creation

I did add MX record and setup A record and Cname as with all my other sites so that it would point to my server and also get the mail

I then added the forwarding and it forwards to my remote site,I then changed DNS in the SME box to resolve locally and the mail works, but the forwarding is not working again.

I seem to be caught in a paradox
And when resolving locally I get duplicate emails now ?

Any tips ?

Thanks
