why can it be SO difficult to accomodate this request?

To answer your query, I live in a country where the government & utilities supplier have decided to implement load shedding on a bi-dialy basis for up to 4 hours a time. I cannot afford a over-priced generator for this. I already have 3x 600VA UPS's & 1x1200VA UPS. <sarcasm on>I'm lucky enough to loose a UPS every 2 or so months due to the power outages</sarcasm off>, so I'm running out of funds and justification for this.

P.S. This is a home-server, so I live with what I have. Why so much space? I do a lot of Linux testing / learning, so I have many different ISO's, and my wife does photography - so we currently have 3 backups of everything. But the server still fails. I've gone from 1 single HDD, to 2xHDD RAID setup, to 4xHDD RAID setup, and the problem still persist.

Solar power, generators and long runtime UPS's are not an option. They are overpriced by at least 3 to 4 times due to high demand......

Anyway, not to worry.

As it is against development guidelines, but nothing is holding you back to reverse engineer the actions taken in a RPM and manually install in an ibay.

If you have such measures in place it would not be that hard to nicely shutdown your server as the power fails, this would leave you without functionality for a while, but it will certainly saves you unclean shutdowns and server failure AFAIK. UPS are most of the times not meant to function long time but are meant to bridge gaps in power supply and if needed prevent data loss by orderly shutting down your system saving the data you need.

as I said, don't worry.

An rpm is JUST is package manager, it has nothing todo with development guidelines. Sure, the guidelines exists, but what about people who download stuff and install it in ibays manually? Please, be open minded about this. There's NO rule that says it HAS to be installed in /opt - in fact the Typo installation instructions doesn't mention anything about it, and actually presumes it will be installed in your webroot, which on many systems are in /home/{username}/public_html - and there'a a good reason for this practise, it makes backups easier.
