Topic: Can not use virtual domains within local network (SOLVED)

Hi all,

I'v a domain "taurix.nl" that I redirected to my SME-server (via DNS). So I set up a virtualdomain "taurix.nl" and pointed that to an ibay "taurix" on my primary-domain.

From the outside world, it works fine. The site can be reached from the outside world.

But when I want to go to the site of Taurix.nl from the local network, it don't work. It then tries to open the the manager of my router.

From within my local network I have to go to http://my.primairydomain.nl/taurix to open the site.

My router redirects all incoming HTTP directly to my SME-server.

Am I missing something?

Did you perhaps configure the server not to do the look-up for local systems and configure a DNS server in the configuration panel during installation?

I let the field of the DNS-servers ip-adres blank because I have access to the internet and I have no other DNS-server in my local network.

Is your router providing DHCP for the network?  If so, then you need to change that so SME is doing DHCP and not the router.

1-Disable DHCP on the router.
2-Enable DHCP on SME.  Assign .100 to .150 (or something like that)
3-Reboot client machines and let them get new IP's and DNS settings from SME.

I have now disabled DHCP on the router and enabled it on my SME-server.

I don't matter. The problem is still there

Did you make sure that the domains are set to resolve locally?

Go into server manager, then click Modify next to the domain. Then under 'Domain DNS servers' select "Resolve locally"
