Topic: VMware acting as test server (server-only mode) [SOLVED]

Guys,

Think I've had too many xmas drinks already as I've forgotten something, I normally do all my testing on VMware on my XP machine, but what I've never had time is to create a VMware runnning SME 7 on the XP machine, so my setup...


Zyxel 192.x.x.1

SME Server 7 server-only mode dhcp (via vmware) 192.x.x.10

XP Machine (which has the SME 7 running) 192.x.x.65

Now i can get the XP Machine connecting to SME Server but question I forgot is that will the internet access go thru the SME Server or because I have it in server-only mode the Zyxel box is doing the internet so no internet will be routing thru the SME box, reason i ask is I see no logs in the /var/log/squid/access.log and was testing squidguard so needed to setup a box, probably missed something silly

It seems that your setup may not work.  XP machine can't get it's IP served up from SME's DHCP as you need to start the XP machine first.

You will probably have to set your XP machine statically and point the DNS server to the hosted SME.  This will create a small problem as the VM SME will have to be running for the XP machine to have internet access (I think).

Hey Paul,

The above setup would work, I just forgot in the browser firefox i needed to set the proxy server to 192.x.x.10:3128 now I see in the /var/log/squid/access.log that its now getting filled with access    Thanks again!
