Migrating Gallery 2 from SME 6 to SME 7
« on: December 30, 2006, 02:52:55 PM »
Just wondering about other peoples' experience before I start this. I'm upgrading my server up to 7.1rc1 this weekend from 6.1.

I have G2 installed on an iBay at the moment but am considering moving at least the php portions to /opt per another thread. I'm not really sure what security hole I'm circumventing by doing this. so curious.

If I leave the install as is then I'm wondering what I do with the mysql data. Will the update from 6.1 to 7.1 automatically take care of this? My expectation is no. So I assume I will have to backup my mysql4 G2 database separately and then restore it onto mysql 5.

Any thing else I should beware of or prepare for?

My appreciation to those who have gone before.

just to update people. After I upgraded from a 6.x base to 7.1.

I needed to add back in the various graphic tool kits such as ffmpeg, ImageMagick, etc.

other than that, there shouldn't be anything else to do.

all database entries survived properly as it related to Gallery2.

The only hicup I had was with file UIDs which got messed up. In particular www's UID got changed around. In my case I simply used chown to set the UID back to www for the g2data directory.

I have filed a bug report in bugzilla on this issue as accounts and passwd seem out of synch.

report is http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2219
