Topic: SME software installer yum update error - corrected

I tried to update my sme server this morning and I got this set of error messages.  After reading this, I don't know whether the update was done successfully or not.  Can someone please tell me?  These updates are no longer available at the admin panel for me to update.

To see if the update occured, open server-manager. It will tell you which version of SME you are running.

Thanks for your post.  The update didn't occur.  It is still showing sme 7.0.  The error messages came 15 seconds after I initiated the update and that couldn't have updated 100's of megs of packages.

Make sure that you ONLY select

yum-plugin-fastest mirror

Then do an update of the rest.

This all happend in about 1 (?) minute.
When I go to the server-manager, there is just a small number of updates concerning SME.
Server-manager says 7.0 in start page. The expected 200MB of date couldn't have been transfered.

I have subbmitted a bug to buggzilla http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2220

Except waiting for an answer , I don't know what to do next.

After my first error, all my updates were gone from my admin panel.  I did the following to bring it back.

Click on Software Installer
Click on Change Software Installer settings
Change 'Manual individual packages' to 'enabled'
Click 'Save'
Click on 'Install additional software'   (This brough back all the available package for me.)
Click 'Change Software Installer Settings'
Change 'Manual individual packages' to 'disabled'    (to return to default)
Click 'Save'

Doing all this allowed me to get the list of updates back and to complete my updates.

Unfortunally this doesn't help me (or I'm doing something wrong).

I see the manually selectable updates (I changed the selectable package to just "SME Server - os"). When I then select all and press install, this message is shown:

I have the same problem as you have the only thing i see is that i have mysql 5.0.22 and PHP 5.16 innstalled that making me these problems getting the updates,some of them can be manually be installed but it take time

Also somethin with perl that cant be innstalled.Maybe a clean install will do the trick

Long time it takes (I 'm on vacation, and at home, so no problem ). This is what I've done so far, and it will perhaps help others who have the same problem:

- I went to http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/ManYum
- After that I used putty and logged in as root
yum clear all (since I suspected som problems with the yum files on server)
- Went back to server-manager/Software installer
- Did a manual update
(It started but took a very long time with no activity on my server or ADSL-Modem)
-therefore I did a reboot, manually
- Back to server-manager/Software installer
- Got a message "updates available"
- Lot of new installation, but again no activity on server or ADSL-modem (for approx 30 min.)
- Did a reboot manually
- Back to server-manager/software installer
- The process continued
- Got a "compleate" message and was asked to
- reconfigure= reboot in software installer

Thats the story so far. No I'm waiting for the server to do a normal Hd check, I'll be back with more information later.

All text on software installer screens are copied to textfiles if someone wants them for analysis.

The problem (at least a part of them) could probably be related to problems with mirrirs not being up.?

Problem not solved and now I havn't got a way forward...

I hadn't marked the Centos and Centos update in software installer

I have the same problem as you have the only thing i see is that i have mysql 5.0.22 and PHP 5.16 innstalled that making me these problems getting the updates,some of them can be manually be installed but it take time

Also somethin with perl that cant be innstalled.Maybe a clean install will do the trick

Did you try enabling the CentOSplus repository?

I see the manually selectable updates (I changed the selectable package to just "SME Server - os").

Why have you selected ONLY SME Server - os?

As per Gordon's post on upgrading http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=35019.0 (second item)

You can do a complete upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1 from the server-manager, if you follow this procedure:

- Update only the following packages:

smeserver-yum
yum
yum-plugin-fastest mirror

- Then select the rest of the updates (or run "yum update")

These first updates load the newer version of yum and associated programs and also add the Centos base and updates repositories to the standard / enabled repositories. Turning these off will only lead to unpredictable updates.

In Gordons post you are refering to it also says:

N.B. It is good idea to enable the CentOS base and updates repositories. They are enabled by default in 7.1 and should normally be enabled on all servers, but we didn't want to force them to enabled on existing servers.

When I started the upgrade I couldn't see all three packages. I can't check now but perhaps one of the packages is in a other repository then SME Server - os?  If that is the case, then perhaps there should be an extra bullit in the procedure, to check the settings? perhaps that had helped me?

As I understand it (not English as nativ language) that means that from 7.1 they are as default. Why didn't I have that before? Don't know, not that good at SME as others...I suppose. Hopefully someone will learn from my mistake?
