Selintra - Sail connection and password issues
« on: January 03, 2007, 11:04:34 PM »
Hi There,

I have just started playing with Sail on SME7 and I seem to be stuck with a few problems I can't find answers for.  I do not have a PCI telephony card yet and am running a test system that I want to put to work soon.

1) I have two extensions using X-lite for testing.  Each registers ok with Sail but I can't talk between them.  The call connects but we get no sound at either end.

2) Sail does not accept the passwords when prompted for them when say retrieving voicemail or any when any of the keypad operations such as recording a greeting, ask for one.

I was trying to use the voicemail for testing and found that I could not retrieve it from either the current extension (*50*) or any of the other extensions (*51*).  I suspect that there is nothing being recorded but it won't even accept the password to tell me there are no messages..

Any thoughts on what I may be missing here?

Cheers,

Sean

Looks like no voice stream can be started.
Any firewall on your 'X-lite' stations ?

I am running Zonealarm on the pc's and the first thing I did was shut it down to see if it was the problem.  No joy there.

Interestingly, since the first post and lots of reading (with no luck yet), I tried the SJphone and had no luck either - same problems.

I then tried the snom360 softphone and it worked just fine so not sure where the problem is with X-lite and SJphone.

For extra info Sail is version 2.1.14-347 and SME is a fresh version 7.0 install with no updates.

Thanks anyhow.

Hi There

Sorry you seem to be having a few problems.

Guess #1 - you are running your SAIL server in server-only mode?

In no particular order...

The prime difference between X-Lite/SJPhone and the 360 movie is that the 360 understands symmetrical RTP (the X and SJ implementations, I believe, rely on STUN).

Also, are you aware that by default, in 7.0, the firewall is up and running even in server-only mode?

try turning the server firewall off

/etc/init.d/masq stop

It may make a difference

Other fields that can mangle or spoof the server are to be found in the SIP headers.  Make sure you have localnet set correctly for your network.

Finally, for outbound/inbound calls from a server-only set-up, make sure you have 5060 forwarded to the server (as a minimum - assuming your carrier is running SBC or media-proxy - most are) and that you have the correct external IP address set in Globals.

For your DTMF issues (voicemail retrieval etc); are you sending DTMF via rfc2833 or in-band?  I believe that both the SJ and X-Lite prefer to send via rfc2833 -you might want to check this out in your SIP definitions and on the phones themselves.

Kind Regards

Selintra

Thanks for that.

SME is running in server only mode in this case.

The local net setting in the Sip Header was the problem.  192.168.1.0 instead of 192.168.0.1 - Doh!  Always the simple things.

As a matter of interest, at least for local calls on the LAN the SME firewall made no difference when on or off and the default DTMF settings for X-lite work fine.

My hardware arrives later today so then fun really starts.

Cheers,

Sean
