boot impossible
« on: January 08, 2007, 03:16:45 PM »
Hi

I'm trying to install smeserver v7.0 to a pc with an DFI motherboard (k6xv3+).

It boots on the cdrom, but just after decompressing, it displays "ready" and the pc reboots.

The md5checksum is OK, I try an installation on another pc and it works, i try to install a debian on this machine and it works too, and I have no ideas anymore.

If someone can suggest me something....

Thanx a lot.

Motherboard : DFI K6XV3+
CPU : AMD K6-2 350Mhz
chipset : VIA VT82C598 MVP

I haven't try to install CentOS 4.4.

SME SERVER 6.0 does support K6 ?

I had a similar problem trying to install 7.1 on a machine with a VIA C3 processor.  I believe that neither K6 nor C3 support CMOV instructions, and therefore the default installation fails with an illegal instruction.

I got mine to install by choosing the other boot option (something like smeserver-i586 - sorry, don't have the details to hand) from the help obtained by function keys when you first boot up from the installation CD.
