Doesn't Recognize Ethernet Adapter
« Reply #15 on: January 14, 2007, 01:11:13 PM »
From me....

I had kernel panics every day. And all sorts of problems (droping connection, errors, strange bonding issues,...). My problem was solved when i got rid of those NICs.

And if you want to tell me that my card was faulty.... it's now installed in my computer and it works just fine.
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

Maybe try a different pci slot ?

It worked! I swapped the card into a different PCI slot and it works like a charm. I just can't imagine why that PCI slot only had a problem with SME 7.1 and not with 6.5. well I'm happy that that's out of the way. Thanks everyone for your help.

the only time I have had issues with realtek nics is when they were 8139 revision D.  These cards do not mix well if you already have any 8139 a/b/c versions installed in the same box.

just my $0.02.

I had two identical (same model, brand, chipset) realtec NIC's which gave me problems.

My install also didn't see an 8169-based controller,  Is there any gigabit NIC that is recognized by SME- 7.x?

THanks
John

I have had very good luck with the D-Link DGE-530T but ONLY rev.A1.  Be careful with this card as rev.B1 models don't work.

From the bug tracker:

DGE-530T Rev.A1 Works with Centos and SME7.
DGE-530T Rev.B1 Does NOT work with Centos and SME7.

Others have also reported luck with some Intel based gigabit cards but I haven't tried any yet.

DGE 528T Works with some minor modifications to kernel drivers. (Use the search button and type dlink)
