Static IPs for VPN Clients
« on: January 24, 2007, 05:52:54 PM »
I have seen this question posted many times and, unfortunatly, wthout answers.
Does anyone know how to assign assign static IP address to VPN clients?  The application our clients will be accessing requires each client to ALWAYS have the same ip address.

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Ken;

I am a noob :oops:  and do not know how to solve your problem within SME Server.

However I am vpn'ing people into my home server with dedicated ip addresses (not a common internal ip for everyone but everyone with a dedicated internal ip) using the following contrib.

I relied on the following:
 [ANNOUNCE] smeserver-openvpn-bridge-fws-1.0-3.rpm (stable).

It operates completely within the SME server control panel. It requires your clients to be Windows xp pro, xp home, or 2000. I have made it work with all of these. It is supposed to be good with apple and linux but I don't have that problem (opportunity?).

Hope I understood your problem, let me know how it goes.

Ian

I fully agree to what imcintyre has pointed out, because I use the same contrib and it works perfectly.

If not yet done you should give at try for "smeserver-openvpn-bridge-fws-1.0-3.rpm"

simple...

When setting up the VPN connection on the client machine, set up the TCP/IP in networking to have the static IP needed, just like you would the local machines on the network....
