Installing sme 7.1 on poweredge 2500
« on: January 30, 2007, 11:30:18 PM »
Hello, i'm not sure this is in the right place, but here we go.  I've been trying to install sme server on a poweredge 2500 and it hangs as soon as it starts to boot off the cd.  It displays the very first line you see when booting from the cd, and then it stops and goes no further.  The server is a p3 1ghz with 2gb of ecc memory and 2 36gb scsi drives in a NON raid configuration. (they are just attached to an adaptec scsi controller.)

I have searched the internet and this forum for a similar problem, but have been unsuccessful in finding any info.  I'm sort of a noob with the linux and scsi stuff, so be patient.  Let me know if you need anything more specific.

Thanks,

BigPoppa

Can you install Centos 4.4? if so then you should be able to install SME Server 7.1

i did some more checking, and it's looks like it might be a bad cd-rom drive.  I'll try installing using a floppy boot disk and post results later.

Thanks,

Press shift and then type "smei586" to make the install CD boot in i586 mode.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys, but i figured it out.  BAD CD-ROM!!  After opening the cd-rom and closing it repeatedly, it finally booted, and installed just fine.  I never could get the 7.1 cd to work so i used a 7.0.  I've got it all updated to 7.1 and everything is working fine.

I doubt you would need to do anything special on that 1600sc.  Once i finally got this 2500 to read the cd, i didn't have to change a thing.

Thanks guys
