Upgrading my SME Server
« on: February 01, 2007, 08:33:53 PM »
Hi all.

I'm sure someone could answer this.

I have an SME Server, and its hardware needs to be upgraded. I have already backed up the user's home folder's to an external USB hard drive.

My question is this:

After I install a fresh copy of SME, what files do I need to copy over to the new server in order to preserve the settings and users' account information?

Thanks!!

Do a backup from the server-manager pannel and then do a restore on the new sistem. That should transfer all the needed data.
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

There are many files (search the FAQs), but you may also be overlooking mysql data too. As suggested the best approach is to do a backup to desktop but only if the resultant backup file is less than 2Gb. Restore won't work if it's bigger than that.

If you have a lot of data then install the backup2 or backup dar contrib and do a system recovery backup & restore.

After the restore is complete & you have rebooted you will then need to re-install any add on contribs.
