Installation Fails: Keyboard not Activated

Strange Issue:

Attempting to do a fresh CD installation of SME 7.1.  System boots to CD, SME boot up screen appears where I can type "enter", "sme"<enter>; or explore the various boot up options.

After proceeding with the installation by hitting <enter>, the Check CD Screen comes up at which point the keyboard is now completely deactivated.   All keys are completely deactivated, including Cap Lock, Num Lock, ect.  I have tried (3) different keyboards, all with the same result.

System:  EPoX EP-8KTA2 KT-133/E CPU AMD Duron 1000MHz Mem SDRAM 256MByte

Ideas?  Anyone seen this before??

Can you try to test the CD on another computer? Don't actually install SME, just test the CD.

I have had some random errors during install if the CD was "bad"... If you still can't get to that part of the install on a different computer, at least you can be relatively certain that it isn't a hardware problem on server.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The test install went just fine on another machine using the same CD, so it does not appear to be the CD.

As is evident from the specs, the machine I was attempting the install on is not exactly new.  It is just possible there are hardware / software issues with the machine that I won't easily be able to detect or solve.  I am inclined to gracefully retire the old box rather than investing anymore of my already short time and attention into it.

It seems unlikely an issue of this nature could be lurking in the SME code.  I looked in Bug Tracker and did a site search and came up with exactly zero results.  Leads me to believe it is an issue with the machine and not SME.

Thank you once again.
