RAID 1 Second Drive Dead
« on: February 06, 2007, 02:39:02 PM »
Hi,

Well I thought things couldn't get any bleaker for us with our first ever Linux server install. After the issues we had a few weeks ago with different sized drives and running out of disk space were solved we now have an even bigger problem.

One of the 40GB HDD is making a right "clicking" noise, so it has to be replaced. My question is, if I put in say another drive of equal size or greater, how do I get the RAID to rebuild?

Cheers for any help

EmyrB

If you put in a drive of equal size you can just enter admin pannel (not server manager but putty and enter admin/pass).

Then you just have to find an option to manage disk redundancy (or something like that) in there and you can add the new drive. In my case the server did this automaticly so this step maybe unnecessary.
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

Hello,

I just done this last week !!!

1) Shutdown Server
2) Replace the defective drive
3) Reboot the server
4) Login on console with admin/password
5) Go in the manage disk redundancy
6) Press "enter" to detect the new spare drive
7) And check the building process...
8) Take a coffe
9) Done
