Your ISP is blocking outbound SMTP connections. You need to use your ISP's mail server for outbound email.

In the server manager under email settings/Address of Internet provider's mail server I filled in the smtp server of the ISP. So that shoulnd't be the problem or am i wrong?

If you've done that and qmail cannot establish an SMTP connection, then your ISP's mail server is down or you've entered the wrong address for it.

Strange because I entered the wright smtp server and he isn't down because I use it now directly for sending email.

this is the mail server I entered smtp.orange.nl.

Can I check this elsewhere in a log file maybe ?

Does your ISP's SMTP server require authentication?

Nope, it is the same isp which i access to go on the internet.

The strange thing is that I now can't receive any mail anymore through fetchmail.

Is it possible that this a problem:

Code: [Select]

[root@woody ~]# config printprop qpsmtpd
Bcc=disabled
BccMode=cc
BccUser=maillog
DNSBL=disabled
LogLevel=8
MaxScannerSize=25000000
RBLList=sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org,whois.rfc-ignorant.org,dnsbl.sorbs.net
RHSBL=disabled
RequireResolvableFromHost=no
SBLList=dsn.rfc-ignorant.org
access=public
status=enabled

I used to have these settings:

Code: [Select]

[root@woody ~]# config printprop qpsmtpd
Bcc=disabled
BccMode=cc
BccUser=maillog
DNSBL=enabled
LogLevel=8
MaxScannerSize=25000000
RBLList=sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org,whois.rfc-ignorant.org,dnsbl.sorbs.net
RHSBL=enabled
RequireResolvableFromHost=no
SBLList=dsn.rfc-ignorant.org
access=public
status=enabled

I use fetchmail!

I was so fed up with this problem that I did a clean install.

But the problem still exists. I can't send email through the sme server but I can send email directly (from a winxp computer) through the same isp smtp server. What could be wrong? It used to work!!

A ping to that server result in this:
PING smtp.orange.nl (193.252.23.135) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- smtp.orange.nl ping statistics ---
645 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 643905ms

A ping to www.orange.nl results in:
[root@woody ~]# ping www.orange.nl
PING a443.x.akamai.net (80.67.86.47) 56(84) bytes of data.

That's not surprising. You haven't diagnosed and fixed the problem.

qmail could not establish an SMTP connection. You need to find out where it was trying to connect to, and why it can't connect there. ping doesn't tell you anything useful.

If you want someone to help you, you'll need to provide a fuller description of how you have your system configured and connected to the Internet.

I don't know how you could have multiple computers connected via a switch and dsl modem. Perhaps you have a router/firewall there.

and can connect to smtp.orange.nl.

What do you see when you log onto the server as root, and type:

telnet smtp.orange.nl 25

?

How about:

telnet smtp1.google.com 25

?
