Topic: e-smith on FreeBSD

I have a IBM server that only runs FreeBSD, no other Linux can do.

is it posible to install e-smith on a FreeBSD server. ?
or to make a iso, that installs e-smith whit FreeBSD insted of Linux. ?

I think the biggest problem would be SysV init vs. BSD init. Otherwise, dependencies are not very well documented in e-smith, so it would be a lot of trial and error. You might have more luck if there was a RedHat flavor available for your machine. Is it a ppc server? IBM and RedHat recently released a version of RedHat for those machines. You might be able to put e-smith on top of that.

In a nutshell, NO this can't be done. That would be like asking could you strap a porsche on the back of a VW and control the VW from the porsche . The very first step that e-smith does as part of the installation is to format your existing HD. The only possible scenario would be to run e-smith inside a vmware virtual machine on the BSD box. As long as the IBM machine is an x86 architecture you should have no problems installing e-smith on it.

The problem is the Mylex raid controller on my IBM Server.
only FreeBSD supports that.

FreeBSD works fine, but i like E-smith, and the easy install
and samba setup.

Is there something like e-smith that works on FreeBSD ?
