Outlook 2007 does not love SME Server 7.1.x SSL
« on: March 06, 2007, 09:49:11 AM »
Does SME server 7.1.x could have problems with Outlook 2007 or vice versa. I am using SSL on sme server 7.1.2. Only Outlook 2007 could not send email. It says that none of the authentication methods supported by this client are supported by your server. It was working very well before 7.1.x updates. What may be the error? What is the solution? Could anyone help me?

Thx

Put down Thunderbird in the list too.

I'm finding that since updating to 7.1.2, every time I try to send (via SSL) it fails the first time, and then [usually] succeeds after a retry. It is almost as though something is timing out, and needs to be reset. This happens from both inside and outside the internal network.

Anyone else having this trouble (before I raise a bug)?

I have just tried Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 with SSL with SME 7.1.2 without a problem.

Please raise it as a bug, there may still be a problem.

please read this.

So does this mean SME 7.1.x has now implemented the "POP3 before SMTP" feature, where the server will open a small timed window for sending via SMTP only after it has received a valid incoming connection to the POP3 (or IMAP) port?

If so, then that will explain why even Thunderbird fails to send an e-mail only after a period of inactivity (i.e. if I have not sent/received for a while), but then suceeds in sending every time on the second attempt, after the IMAP folders are refreshed.

I know this is a feature that has been asked for in the past. I think there is a plugin in Thunderbird that will do the "POP3 before SMTP" thing, but it does not look like there is a setting by default (like with Outlook 2007).
