Install the OpenVPN contrib that VIP-ire has put together. The last time I looked the announce thread was near the top of the contribs board. I believe I have used 8080 for a day or so when we were having some firewall issues...

AFAIK, microsoft PPTP VPN client cannot be configured to connect to a different port, so moving the server would not help.

You don't need to reconfigure any server to use a different port, just use portforwarding to create a connection from a different port to where it is running.

thanks charlie for the info, i'm using my mac not microsoft, but i'll try using the portforwarding meathod.

so would i just leave the pptp settings enabled
source port = 8080
destination host = localhost
destination port = 1723

cheers

I set the forwarding up as in the above post but i still cant connect to my SME server.

I can access using port 1723 no problem, but i really need the service to run on 8080
