Deleting IMAP Email
« on: March 19, 2007, 05:44:45 PM »
Hello All.   I am aware that when deleting Email from the IMAP message stores the Email does not actually get deleted (for a time) it just disappears from client view.  Can someone tell me when the server DOES delete Email.  It seems to be at 20 days or so, but I have not been able to figure it out.

Mail is deleted when the email client asks for it to be. Check your email client configuration.

I don't think this is correct, or possibly I'm missing something. If you delete Email (most of my clients use Outlook or OE) the messages are just hidden.  You CAN  go into webmail and "purge deleted", but it seems that the server deletes at some point down the road.  I don't use Outlook or OE, so I can't check the settings.  I also don't remember any setting that allows for deleting from an IMAP server!

In Microsoft Outlook, in the top menu, choose Edit, and then Purge Deleted Messages.

It is correct. The only exception in the SME server is the junkmail folder, where messages are auto-purged after a configurable time.
