Domain login problem (after upgrade)
« on: March 29, 2007, 04:37:20 PM »
About a month ago I upgraded my SME 6.0.1. server to 7.1.0 (and later to 7.1.1. and 7.1.2).

After the 7.1.0 upgrade I noticed that there was a problem when a user tries to log in on a computer (Win XP SP2). If that user could log in on a computer before the upgrade, he/she has no problem logging in after the upgrade. If however that user tries to log in on a different computer (where he/she never logged in before) he/she receives an error message that the username/password/domain controller is wrong (neither of them is, I've tried it several times with different computers and user accounts).

I found a bug that seems to point to rather the same problem (see http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1550) but it is marked as closed and invalid. So I'm not sure if restoring an old secrets.tdb file (as suggested in the bug report) would solve the problem.

I've also noticed the following strange thing: my user account was member of the (local) administrators on my computer before the upgrade and has a SID starting with  S-1-5-21-1104522194-1193420561-.... If I add my user account (or any other user account) to the local administrators group on my computer the SID starts with an entirely different number: S-15-21-1539043980-2491599288-.... Maybe it is related, I'm not sure.

Any ideas, troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!

net groupmap list

is going to show you the accounts on the domain.

From this end, it's hard to tell if the pc's are actually part of the domain or not. Or if there is another MS server running.

I don't have any MS servers running, the SME is the only server (and domain controller). All computers are member of the domain.

I have the exact same problem!
In my case I installed a brand new server with SME7.2.
(No upgrade). It's the only domain in the network.
It worked for 2 days and now it suddenly doesn't anymore.

All workstation are XP Pro (SP2) and are domainmembers.

Please can someone help, it's urgent!

Lodge a bug report and be prepared to follow through with log files etc as & when  requested.

Do they use passwords that meat the passwordstrength setting and are the passwords at least 7 characters long?
