Ummm do you know that you'll turn your laptop into a server thus making it useless for normal use (if you don't use vmware).

P.S.: The answer would be to disable all the stuff you don't need in your BIOS (modem, sound card,...).
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

Initializing hardware... storage network audio

AFAIK linux does this when it starts apropriate hardware and if i remember correctly network is the last thing that it initializes.
What exactly does your server do?
Because this isn't a problem. It's normal. And i did't stop and think when i gave you the answer i just taught that it freezes so can you give me more info?

When i start the server, then it go's ok till: Initializing hardware... storage network audio. On an other pc is audio the last initial and go's further. But here in stops.
In the bios is no possiblitity to disable audio. I also tryed CentOS, and there is the same problem.
Suseand Ubuntu works fine.

Found a possible solution on the CentOS list.

http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2005-December/057626.html

I had a USB keyboard plugged in and after switching to a PS/2 keyboard I was able to boot SME.

Just ran into this problem on a Gigabyte GA-7ZX with a Duron 900, updated to latest BIOS; turned out that SME didn't like the PCI video card I'd installed so I had to use the worst AGP I could dig up ... then SME proceeded through the "storage network audio" with no hesitation.

My first question is "why?"

Googling for this:

Code: [Select]
hang "Initializing hardware... storage network audio"

... suggests that the kernel is not compatible with your sound hardware, and gives some suggested workarounds.

Your Google-fu is strong but I'm sorry for posting into an old thread ... I'm sure the OP has long since solved his issue or moved on, but perhaps someone rehabilitating an old PIII box could benefit, as I did.  As for why to install SME on a laptop, I can think of two good reasons right off the top of my head:  demonstrate how easily SME can integrate into a network, and as laptop hard drives usually exceed 40 gigabytes now you could use a laptop with SME as an emergency server for most small offices.

Achieving servergateway mode with a laptop is usually difficult.
