A few questions for the pros
« on: May 05, 2007, 04:05:02 PM »
Is SME secure enough to run a website without forwarding to an internal site? I knon that a lot of people do, but I always assumed that a firewall was the frontend to the web/mail/ftp etc.

As you can tell, I only know enough Linux to get in trouble...

Also, has anyone got the latetest snort contrib to work? I do the setup, and there are no alerts in base. Have put it on several new installs, as well as up and down on the same install.. no luck. Read all I can find, and it apears some have it working...

Sorry to trouble you folks, but I need to find out some way..

A firewall is like you presumed normally inbetween the web and your mail. ftp and web server. Although SME Server combines the two it is certainly secure to run your website on a default SME Server box, as it is designed to give good security.

I have been running websites on SME Server's for quite some time now ithout to much problems.

Thanks very much. I have tried several of these SME api's, and though that they were all fairly safe. Keep coming back to SME/Server, as it appears to remain truly GPL, as I read GPl anyway.

As stated, I know just enough to get in real trouble, so I thought I'd ask.

Thanks agin for your feedback!
