Error on joining domain [solved]
« on: May 11, 2007, 01:49:20 PM »
Hi,

Perhaps I am asking this question a second time.

I have a SMEserver setup as domain controller (PDC) with no roaming profiles.

On two test setups on my own office connecting to a domain was very easy and smooth so no problem.

Now I come to the production server. I want to connect some workstations/PC to the domain (called "D_3DE") but without succes. Error message somethingn like: domain controller not available or could not be contacted as in http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=35013.0.

However I do see in the network neighbourhood te server with it's shares and all.

I have tried three out of 6 PC/workstations and two errored (XP/W2K) and one (w2k) did connect.

The last things tells me the servers is or at least seems to be OK.

I have tried several accounts but "admin" from the server seems to do the trick when it works.

Questions are perhaps obvious:
* do I still have to tweak some register settings?
* Perhaps DNS?
* Or is there something I don't see?
* Add another user or group?

Hope somebody can help me out on this.

Thnx

Pieter

I don't know if it still acurate in all situation, but :

http://servername/server-resources/regedit/winxplogon.reg

could be your friend.

Thnx for the tips.

Strange thing that in a test, setting DNS to "something" on the internet, domain joining was no problem. However you must read "rejoined" so that is perhaps complicating.

And in the production environment setting the DNS didn't help as far as I know till now.

Next wednesday I hope to sort it all out. Perhaps I have indeed to resort to the registry settings

Next wednesday I hope to sort it all out.

It's all working :D . Thnx for helping me out. DNS server did the trick.

Perhaps add to the documentation that DNS *IS* crucial here?

Closed as far as I am concerned
