Disk Bad ????
« on: May 23, 2007, 06:52:08 PM »
I have an sme 7. The disk light is staying on. I dont believe there is any activity that should be causing this. I use htop and dont see much going on. Im wondering if there is something wrong with the drive.

I dont know that much about , possibly using fsck.

Can someone give mesome commands that...

1. Would be a "check this drive and see if there are any problems"

2. If there are problems a command like "chkdsk" that would walk through and repair anything that might be wrong.

Thanks.

Could it be that you just connected the wires wrong?
And the disks on my server work 24/7 and there's nothing wrong with them.

Do you have any errors or is it just a panic attack because you have the light on?
"It should just work" if it doesn't report it. Thanks!

The system had been running ok w/out the light on much. I have not changed anything as far as the drive is concerned so Im confident that I have not got the wires on incorectly.

It seems to have hung twice in the last few hours. So Im concerned that something may be wrong.

Im asuming that there are relatively harmless commands like fsck that will run and check and repair any errors. If there are none then it will be harmless, if there are some then it will repair them.
