VPN DNS Issue
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:38:18 PM »
We are currently running a Windows 2003 AD Environment that provides DNS for the company.  We are using SME for our E-Mail and VPN Server.  However for some reason, our SME server will not resolve local host names.  So when people VPN they must use the UNC with the IP Address of the server instead of the hostname.  How can I make the SME server use the 2003 box for local DNS?  Thanks in advance.

Have you told it how to resolve local host names? You need to configure it to know about the corporate DNS server, then you need to tell it which domains are managed by the corporate DNS server. The Users Guide should tell you how to do those things.

[If it doesn't, then please open a bug against the Documentation, via the Bug Tracker.]

Are the vpn users running windows boxes?  If so, enable wins on the 2003 server then incoming users can utilise the wins service to resolve hostnames.
