I downloaded the e-smith 3.1 ISO copy and successfully burned it onto a CD-rom. From that CD-rom i then made the Bootdisk needed to start the installation.

Now to the problem:

The installation starts correctly but before i choose the keyboardtype i get two error messages saying something about "kt.... missing" (cant remember exactly). The installation then continues without fuzz.

I get to choose to either update or install a new system and chose "install new".
After all copying is done i get to choose a password for root and then the machine reboots.

The main problem is that i dont get a console screen which i understand that i´m supposed to get. I only receive the login prompt.

I am able to login as root and can access the server from other machines in my network either by HTTP and Telnet.

Why dont i get the console??? Can it have something to do with a previous installation of had RedHat 6.0 on the harddrive?

I have two harddrives. "hda" is a 500Mb which i intended to have the system on and "hdb" is a 4.3Gb for /home and maybe /usr.

It sounds very much to me as though you have used the wrong boot floppy image - you have used a standard RedHat boot floppy instead of the e-smith one.

The e-smith installation will only make use of (all of) the first hard drive. You can make use of the second using standard linux techniques (or you can do so at install time by modifying ks.cfg on the boot floppy), but that is not supported by E-smith.

Although I'm quite sure i use the correct bootdisk image i used rawrite again to make another copy. But still same thing...I also downloaded the bootdisk image of your website...same thing...

The name of the file missing was "ks.cfg".
I checked the disk but the file were there.

The bootdisk worked fine up the file ks.cfg.

I really scratched my head for a long time.

But then i found the problem. For some strange reason the BIOS-setting for the diskdrive had been set to 1.2Mb instead of 1.44Mb.

I just thought i'd let you know so you can spare other from thinking of checking into the nuthouse.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm sorry you had such a hard time, but I'm glad you are up and running now!
