server/gateway behaving as private server
« on: May 30, 2007, 04:28:04 PM »
While using putty, i accidently set a server to PRIVATE SERVER instead of server only.  ( wasn't even working on the right putty session!!!!)  I've now twice reset it to server/gateway ( in theory! )

HOWEVER, there is no global access to the website, just local network.  Email sends to the world,  and sends/receives on the local network, but doesn't receive mail
VPN doesn't work any more.
Webmail logs in OK , just always says no new mail!
My mailsend cgi script seems to have broken too but that may be a separate issue

Mail sent to the domain is returned with server not found or timeout errors.

the logs say all is well!

Any ideas out there?

thx

Have you accidentaly reversed the nic's?

You had to set which was internal / external at the configure time.

I.E. Is the nic attached to the external world defined as external to smeserver & is the nic to your local LAN defined as internal?

Local is a gigabit card, external is 10/100 on  motherboard, so it's easy to tell visually  they were NOT swapped, config still says they are correct, and internet access was working outbound, just inbound was restricted!

(EXACTLY what is wanted on a private server! )

Maybe someone else wants to risk reconfiguring?  javascript:emoticon('')
