fresh install sme server 7.1

fresh install sme server 7.1

with the latest sme server 7.1 iso downloaded. it does nor self boot, it's mentioned in the release notes that it won't self boot. I am a newbie to linux. How can I start install sme server 7.1 with the new iso. Please help

7.1 does boot, is your boot order correct?

7.1 does boot, is your boot order correct?

Yes my boot order is correct and i tested it with a win98 bootcd. Refering to the relese notes posted on the sme server website it says the new iso won'y self boot.

How did you write the cd? If you explore the cd on a windows machine, what do you find there? Only the iso? The iso has to be extracted on your cd.

i have downloaded the SRPMS ISO. WILL IT BOOT?. I HAVE CORRECTLY BURNT THE ISO AS I CN SEE THE FILES THE FOLDERS AND ALL THE RPM'S WITHIN THEM

I HAVE CHECKED THE MD5 CHECKSUM. IT'S MATCHING. i HAVE DOWNLOADED THE srpms iso. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO ISO'S . WILL BOTH OF THEM BOOT.?

That's not the ISO cd that you need. You need the RPMS ISO. SRPMS stands for SOURCE RPMS.

With prgrams like IsoBuster (and prob. more) you can verify if there is a bootsector, even before you burn it to disc.

Maybe it's better to place the Source related subjects, including iso's in a seperate directory called "sources" to prevent this kind of trouble. It's not the 1st time somebody makes this mistake.

Thanks. I'll download the rpms iso and get back with sucess report tomorrow. I am a windows expert trying to explore linux for the first time, it's wonderfull to see all of you helping so fast. keep the good spirit up.

Thanks for mentioning Isobuster. I downloaded the rpms.iso and my server immedialetly booted. it's working fine. thanks for all your posts

Poor. I just downloaded the SRPMS ISO and cannot boot. Try to download the ISO file now...

 :(

I should search the forum before the downloading.
