is it possible to transfer configuration of one fully configured sme server to another newly installed sme server (both computer with exact similar hardware). if yes? how. since i have set up a new server and all my services are working fine i want to save its configuration and port it to another computer so incase i mess up with the first computer trying to explore more facalities i don't end up at a point of no return. safety sake.

easiest way is to ghost the hard drive, or, if you are brave and use disk mirroring, swap drives and let the raid repair make the copies

ghost is a very bulky option. is there any thing called configuration file which can be backedup and then restored on another computer. i am not worried about data, i am interested only in server settings being stored

'lazy admin tools' allows you to dump the user, ibay, pseudonym, group (plus some other?) configuration files, then restore them on a different computer.

Michael Weinberger's affa could be used to do this - install it, do a backup with the ibay data files excluded, execute a 'rise'.

server-manager:Administration:Backup_or_restore:Backup_to_Desktop will backup all of the SME-specific data.  This backup includes the ibays, but if you can figure out how to exclude the ibay data this should work.

There was lots of discussion around the time that 7.0 came out about what files had to be copied over to get the same configuration on a new server - you might look for the 6.0.1 to 7.0 upgrade procedures.
