I'm about ready to purchase dungog-dansguardian for the server gui but I was wondering if there was not another free way to do this without having to purchase. I'm just seeing if I have any other options.  Many thanks in advance!

You can use an alternative to dg (squidguard) which has a gui.

I bought the Dungog-Dansguardian package, even thou you have the GUI, you still have to do some console work.

No, it's the same blacklist you get with the free version. You get a panel in the SME server-manager to manage your lists and control who can access what.
