Topic: open ports for authenication & login?

Hi-

New user question:

Do I need to open additional ports to allow for user authentication and logon to i-bays from remote users on the internet.

I can remotely http to i-bay ok with no login security in place, but when I change it to "authentication required", I get the following message: "Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required."

I know password and user name are good, but am wondering if I have a closed port that is used during authentication?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
