e.smith v3.0 pop3 settings?
« on: February 25, 2000, 06:19:02 AM »
Hello Joe,

I have not forgotten that beer I owe you!  Anyway, I have run into a snag, here is my problem:

I have two delimas:  (one of them is obviously poor spelling)

First one:
I want to use my esmith server to send and recieve mail.  When I set up an ibay, say pok, than I would assume that the email address would be pok@pok.org.  Is this correct?  If so, when I attempt to retrieve mail from it through outlook etc... I get this message:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.pok.org', Server: 'mail.pok.org', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR authorization failed', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Is there a default account password created everytime I create an ibay?  I know that you can set a password for it, but I think that is for web access.

I have a dsl connection @768
I do have static ip addresses
I do have mx records published for it.
I do have my dns records published.

Under general email settings I have the pop server access set to public.
Email retrieval mode is set to standard.
Secondary mail server is my isp email address
I did not change the defaults for the rest of the general email settings.

My settings for outlook are:

Under tools/accounts/servers
Incoming mail (pop3):  mail.pok.org
Outgoing mail (smtp):  mail.pok.org

Under tools/accounts/advanced
outgoing mail (smtp):  port 25
Incoming mail (pop3):  port 110

Do I need to change my port settings?

second delima:

I would like to be able to run a news letter through my esmith, I noticed in the docmentation that the ability to send bulk mail through the server has been snuffed out.  Is there a way for me to turn that back on.  Nobody but me will be using the email capabilities, so I am not worried about third party spamming.  Can this feature  be turned back on?  If so how?

Thanks for your time Joe, any help would be much appreciated,  Your beer will be tipped soon,
PK

No, that is not correct. An ibay is a file storage area, it doesn't have an email address associated with it.

What has been snuffed out is the ability of everyone to send
mail from anywhere to anywhere via your server. You are still
able to send whatever email you want, as long as you do it
from your LAN.
