Zapmicro and Selintra Sail?
« on: July 07, 2007, 02:15:24 AM »
Hello Selintra,

I was wondering if you had any comments on these cards.

According to the sales rep   Zapmicro is supposed to be 100% compatible to the Digium line. http://www.zapmicro.com They also carry a two year warranty... What has piqued my curiosity is that they advertise two of their TDM400P clones (loaded w/ 2FXO and 2 FXS) for US $239.00.

I'm unfamiliar with the clone lines (like Openvox and Zapmicro) but I know the true Digium cards work splendidly with Sail. I know that you mentioned the Openvox line in a previous thread. Is the sound quality on a clone (like the Openvox) as good as the Digium?

TIA
Richard

Hi Richard,

Hope you are well.

I'm afraid we can't help much with this one. This is the first we've seen of these cards.  It's always difficult to know just how faithful clone/copy cards are to the original design until you plug one in and try it.

If you get the chance, you might want to ask if and how they handle things like fxotune co-efficients and whether they recognise all of the different country impedance values in the way the Digium boards do (particularly for your own country).   Lastly, you might want to ask how well they handle cpc and CLID, particularly on non-Bellcore networks.

Kind Regards

S

The ZapMicro and OpenVOX cards are discussed heavily in the trixbox forum. See www.trixbox.org

The ZapMicro and OpenVOX cards are all based on the same reference card. As such they can use each others daughtercards interchangably. Some people feel that the "clones" (not really clones of the Digium as it is a clone of the reference card) are actually of a better design because they improved in the board design over what Digium came up with. I personally have not gone into any heavy comparison testing, but have an OpenVOX card and am happy with it.

That being said, you might want to look into Rhino and Sangoma cards with hardware echo cancellation. It may keep you from pulling your hair out by the handfull.

Yes, they work great!
I just tested a system with the ZMA400P-40 (4 FXS) and one of their old (no longer available) single FXO (same as the Digium X100P).
The best of this all is that I'm using two modules from Zapmicro and two original Digium modules.
