Topic: Ident authentification not working?

Hello everyone,
 
I have a test server with a fresh install of SME 7.1 (all updates), with the Dansguardian and SARG contribs from Dungog I Installed following Ray's excellent How To. I set up PAM authentification in Squid and DG and all is working well. User names are showing up in SARG.
 
Now I change authentification to Ident in both Squid and DG. My test client does not have an Ident server installed, is not on the domain and does not have any local users that match any server users. Yet when I open a web browser I am free to browse. DG does filter as it is supposed to. I would expect that without the Ident authentification this computer would be locked out.
 
I have look at the logs and do not see anything out of the ordinary and the user's name does not show up in the SQUID or DG access log.
 
What am I doing wrong? What info can I post here to help?

Well it seams to be working now. One issue was the client machine's (WinXP) firewall was block the ident requests from SME.

I do not understand why this would now block web access when ident is turned off on the client.
