Is there a way to make yum do all the downloading for updates without actually updating ?

What I would like to be able to do is;
- do a yum update onlydownloadstuff
remotely

then go to the location and
- do a yum update from the console

AFAIK this is not provided by yum, maybe it is easier in your case as you will be visiting the location to take with you a CD copy of the SME Server 7.2 installation disk and upgrade using this disk. This will give you the same result in the end and will save you all the time waiting for downloads.

I think I saw a plug-in on the yum homepage (duke).

I believe it was mentioned in a NFR bug but didn't progress to far.

Correct there has been some talk on the mailinglist a few years ago already, but according to the plugin section of the official site is is not released: http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumPlugins
