7.2 Installation problem
« on: July 27, 2007, 02:44:06 AM »
Hi,

I have built a new machine using a Gigabyte ga-g33m-s2 motherboard with dual 320 gig sata drives and a IDE AOPEN DVD burner.

I've just tried to install SME 7.2 but straight after selecting the keyboard type it asks where the packages are to be installed. I select Local CDROM from the list and say it can't find it and then I can either select a driver or load from a disk.

This is probably something very simple but it's got me stumped at the moment.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
  Bruce

the place installed to - not the cd, but your sata drives.

check the centos hardware compatibility lists to ensure your hardware (sata controller) is supported.

this is assuming your drives are seen ok by the bios...

i haven't done a fresh install from 7.2 disk (only lots of upgrades!!) but haven't come across any issues myself with sata drives not being recognised.  i assume if you are being asked its coz they aren't seen...

good luck

Actually it was the CDROM and not the SATA. For some reason it had an issue with the motherboard's single channel IDE controller.

I changed the burner to a USB to IDE controller and it installed fine except there is no driver support for the onboard realtek rtl8111b network card. Onto the next problem......
