Sage Accounts Production Software

I have a problem with the registration process of a piece of Sage Accounts software. The problem isn't unique to e-smith, a number of other Linux server users are reporting the same difficulty, but I wondered if forum members might know of a solution.

The Sage Accounts Production software runs on Windows and I want to store the data on a 5.1.2 server. The approach worked up till the current update when Sage changed from registration using a dongle to a file based registration system which compares the client list file with a registration file at load time. Part of the comparison involves the create dates of the two files involved, both of which are Access database *.dbf files. It looks as though the Windows requester that grabs the dates is returning the modify date of the files instead of the create date because the process works for the first user of the day but once the client list is opened - which changes only the modify date - the registration process will not permit further clients to connect and puts up a 'please register this software' dialogue. Once registered the software works fine until the next morning whent he same error occurs again.

Is there a known bug in either Samba or Windows 98 that causes the modify date to be returned instead of the create date and is a workround available?
