How to change the port number when using ISP SMTP server
« on: August 11, 2007, 05:03:49 PM »
Hi.

I have created my SME Server as a black box, fetching emails from my ISP accounts, and the clients are fetching them from my SME SERVER box.

But when it comes to sending mail, my clients sends mails to the SME SERVER box, but this cant deliver the emails outside the internal network because, port 25 is blocked and can not be opend.

My ISP allows me to use their SMTP server but only on port 587.

In the controlpanel I can enter then server names and user and password information, but I can't change the outgoing port number.

As you might have guessed I am NOT a linux expert :-)

Just add a colon followed by the port number behind the host name of the SMTP server of your provider in the hostname field like so:

smtp.provider.nl:port

In case you need to authorize you need to enable that as well and supply the proper  credentials.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
